Cinematographer Santosh Sivan’s recommendation lands the newbie in Priyadarshan’s film
Call it being at the right place at the right time. Akshara Gowda, the newbie from South, is gearing up for her Bollywood debut in a Priyadarshan film and that too in a leading role. However, a few months ago, she was literally unknown and wasn’t thinking of getting into Hindi showbiz!
Turns out Akshara wasn’t very keen on continuing as an actor either even after making her South Indian debut in 2011. However, an audition done for fun landed her a cameo in the Tamil film Thuppakki directed by A R Muguradoss.
Akshara feels that it changed the course of her life. `I’m a great believer in destiny. I just happened to accompany a friend who was auditioning for the film and asked me to audition as well. I just did it for the heck of it and landed a tiny role in the action thriller,` she says.
As luck would have it, Santosh Sivan who was the cinematographer for the film suggested Akshara’s name to director Priyadarshan who incidentally was looking for a female lead to cast in his film. As a result, the dusky beauty from Bangalore is all set to star opposite Jackky Bhagnani who himself is just three-films-old.
`I had no plans to become a full-fledged actor. But Sivan sir liked my face and performance in that small role and even recommended me to Priyan sir who readily took notice of me,` signs off Akshara.

Anne Hathaway Acceptance Speech: Best Supporting Actress Winner Practiced A Lot

At Sunday’s 85th annual Academy Awards, Anne Hathaway took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Les Miserables.” While accepting the award, Hathaway thanked her husband and fellow “Les Mis” cast members, but not before exclaiming, “It came true!” (“It” being her dream of winning; also a play on the song she sings in “Les Miserables,” “I Dreamed A Dream.”)
If Hathaway’s acceptance speech seemed rehearsed, that’s because it reportedly was — many, many times.
An unnamed source told Us Weekly that Hathaway practiced the speech in an effort to appear more likable. “She was very aware that she had been the butt of everyone’s jokes,” the source said.
Whether that speciously sourced quote is true or not, Hathaway has been the subject of widespread hate as of late, intensified in part because of her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes.
Unfortunately for Hathaway, the online barbs only continued after the Oscars.

Kareena Kapoor to walk the ramp for Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2013

Actress Kareena Kapoor will be walking the ramp for Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2013 which kick starts from March 22.
Kareena will be the show stopper for the grand finale which will be presented by designer Namrata Joshipura. Last year too Kareena had walked the ramp for grand finale designers Kallol Dutta and Pankaj and Nidhi.
“Yes this year too Kareena, being the brand ambassador of Lakme, will be walking the ramp for the finale. She is quite excited about it. We hope she would have some time from her busy schedule,” Purnima Lamba, Head Innovations, said.
On if Kareena’s husband Saif too will be present this year, Purnima said, “I think as Saif is busy with his shoots, he might come to admire her. Since the show is more to do with women, he might not walk the ramp and just be present there.”
Namrata, excited about her show, said, “I am really looking forward for the finale. I am quite happy to showcase my collection, which will be a blend of contemporary and modern.”
“I had an interaction with Kareena but my focus would be to keep her look quite to the essence of the show – which is contemporary modern,” she said.
The Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2013 will be held at a suburban five star hotel from March 22 to 26 where a total of 87 designers will present their collection.
Designer Tarun Tahiliani will open the LFW Summer Resort 2013 with a grand off site show on March 21.
Renowned designers including Vikram Phadnis, Manish Malhotra, Nishika Lulla, Rocky S, Masaba, Gaurang Shah, Swapnil Shinde, Bhairavi Jaikishan will showcase their work.
Also, this season LFW has come up with a unique cause which will be showcased by designer Vikram Phadnis.
Phadnis’s show will speak about rural India ‘Swadesh’. “Swadesh is here to change the attitude of rural India, which is not about bullock carts and wells but there is a lot more to it. I have visited quite a few villages in Maharashtra. I can’t talk much. All I can assure you is that it will be something unexpected,” Vikram said.
On if any celebrity will be walking the ramp for him, he neither confirmed nor denied saying, “you all will be surprised and I think one will miss a lot if they miss my show this season.”

Renee Zellweger and Kristen Stewart may have been drunk at the Oscars

Renee Zellweger and Kristen Stewart’s odd behaviour as presenters at the 85th Annual Academy Awards caused a storm among viewers, with many suggesting that the usually composed starlets were inebriated during the broadcast.
Zellwegger and her Chicago cast mates presented the gold statues for Best Song and Best Original Score.
For both awards, the Jerry Maguire star appeared glazed over and unbalanced as she and her co-presenters read off the nominations onstage.
Zellwegger then struggled – and ultimately failed – to read the respective winners’ names from the envelope.
Comedian Michael Ian Black tweeted about a squinty Zellwegger, “Do you guys remember when Renee Zellweger had eyes?
“Renee Zellweger is acting like I do when I drink a lil’ too much in front of my mum, but I try to hold it together,” another viewer tweeted.

Baba Sehgal excited at remix song for ‘Rey’

Famous singer Baba Sehgal has sung a remix song for Sai Dharam Tej’s upcoming film,’Rey’, in the direction of YVS Chowdary.

Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly: First Look at Actress as Legendary Screen Icon

The first official images of Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly have been released and the resemblance is certainly striking.
Nicole plays Kelly in the upcoming biopic, “Grace of Monaco,” about the legendary Hollywood beauty who gave up her acting career for the royal throne when she married Rainier III, Prince of Monaco, the Telegraph notes.
The first images of Kidman as Kelly show the Australian actress embodying the “High Noon” star’s style, with frothy dresses and head scarves.
The 45-year-old portrays the Princess of Monaco between December 1961 and November 1962, when she was in her 30s trying to help her country during a time of political turmoil, Collider reports.
On Sunday, Deadline.com revealed that The Weinstein Company is finalizing a deal to acquire the domestic rights to Olivier Dahan’s “Grace Of Monaco.” The film is set to be released in December, in the middle of awards season, and may be an Oscar contender for Harvey Weinstein.
Kidman already has an Oscar win to her name.
At this stage of her career, the actress is committed to longevity in a business that caters to youth. This strategy includes honing in on character parts rather than only lead roles.
“My desire, particularly now as I get older, is to play character roles,” she told Radio Times via the Independent. “’The Paperboy’ is a character role and so is ‘Stoker,’ and ‘Grace of Monaco.’ And it’s a great thing being a character actor – the leading lady thing is fine but the interesting stuff is the character parts.”
“I’m not good when I have to be the girl next door,” Kidman added. “The more extreme the better, in a way.”

Ben Affleck’s oscar speech revealed a truth about marriage

Did you see Ben Affleck’s speech accepting the Best Picture award last night? If not, he made a moving and authentic statement about marriage. Read more about it here.
The part that has people in a tizzy is this:
“I want to thank you for working on marriage for 10 Christmases. It’s good, it is work, but it’s the best kind of work, and there’s no one I’d rather work with.”
The criticism centers around this statement as lacking in cuteness, and focusing on the negative. It wasn’t the “right forum” for this type of declaration, it was a possible indicator that “something is wrong” in the marriage, he should have just stuck to “I love you and adore you and you’re perfect” — basically whining that a major Hollywood star was uncomfortably honest about his relationship and said overly blunt things about marriage in one of the most public forums on the planet.
Anyone who actually agrees with the above criticism doesn’t get marriage.
A fundamental reality of human relationships is that two people are not meant to be in a single monogamous partnership for all eternity (or even until the end of their lives). Humans crave sexual novelty. We get bored. We lose interest after just two years. We find our intimacy crushed by the weight of daily routines. Marriage is a voluntary commitment that flies in the face of all scientific research and human evolution.
We enter this voluntary (some say insane, and they’re not entirely wrong) pact because we do a cost-benefit analysis and decide that the benefits of getting married (or otherwise partnering for life) outweigh the potential costs — breakups, emotional pain, financial disarray, the list goes on. We make just about the biggest emotional leap of faith a person can make, because we think, feel, and hope that the rewards will be great.
But at no point can we ever assume that these rewards will come without putting in the work to achieve them. We’re signing up for a daily struggle — some days it’s a small struggle, some days larger — and a distinct set of tasks that must be completed in order to keep the whole thing from falling apart. These may range from the tiny (say “good morning” to your spouse in a cheery voice even though you wish you could shoot a nuke through the sun and return to sleep) to the sizable (find a way not to explode with rage and stomp out when your partner loses her temper and insults your mother) to the enormous (comfort your partner and assist with all the logistics after the agonizing death of his parent).
Large or small, it’s still work — there is no way around that. And failing or refusing to do this work means the death of the relationship, maybe not today, but eventually.
I learned this the hard way. Like so many women, I had the initial thought going into my wedding, “Oh thank God, my single time is over — the work is done! We’ll be married and finally I’ll feel safe and secure and I won’t have to spend so much time and energy doing things just to keep the relationship going.” HA. A week after our honeymoon we had an argument — I got mad at him in public, blame was broadcast, insults were hurled, tears shed. Eventually I sat down alone with my newly married self and took stock of the situation, which had gone from peaceful to chaos in a matter of minutes. I realized that I had let my work lapse — I’d been resting on my laurels, expecting my marriage to unfold perfectly on its own. I’d stopped putting in the work. Getting married hadn’t saved me from a life of toil or reduced my level of risk — I’d simply traded in the toil and risk of dating for the toil and risk of having a good marriage.
Since then, my husband and I have discussed and sifted and accepted and listened and compromised. I’ve softened a few fossilized ideas I’d been carrying around my entire adult life, for the sake of understanding someone else’s point of view. I’ve done and said a few things my single self wouldn’t recognize — if she did, she’d probably be all judgey and self-righteously appalled. Eh, screw her. I adore my husband, I cherish our relationship, and when you ask me “What is the single most important thing in your life?” without hesitation I say, “My marriage.” The work, as Affleck wisely stated, is the best kind of work (if you don’t think so, you shouldn’t be married — no judgments, it’s just not for you), and there’s no one I’d rather do it with. If you’re partnered for life, if you’re fighting this good fight against biology, then you understand that — and you see that there is nothing Affleck could have said that would have honored his wife, and HER work, more.

I don’t want to be called only Priyanka’s sister, says Parineeti Chopra

Parineeti Chopra loves Priyanka Chopra, but is somewhat wary of her star cousin’s name being mentioned every time she is being discussed. Parineeti now wants her own identity.
“I am proud to be Priyanka’s sister. But I want to be known for myself, the way Ranbir Kapoor is known although he is Kareena Kapoor’s cousin,” said Parineeti who has been part of two hits ‘Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl’ and ‘Ishaqzaade’.
“I don’t want to be called only Priyanka’s sister. I want to be as good as her. People should say Priyanka and Parineeti are both fabulous actors,” she added.
However, she clarifies that she doesn’t see Priyanka as competition at all.
“How can Priyanka be my rival? She is been here so much longer,” she said.
Apart from acting, another common trait between them is that like Priyanka, Parineeti too is a trained singer. The former made her singing debut through international music single ‘In My City’.
“It runs in the family. My dad and Priyanka’s dad are brothers. They used to sing together on stage. And when Priyanka and I were kids, we performed on stage together. So yeah, I love singing. If I get a chance to make a dream singing debut like Priyanka, I’d grab it. Maybe later. And I also love reading. But most of all I like sleeping. That’s when I regain all my energy. Then I go out and act.”
For her, self-discipline is a precondition.
“I was a focussed student in school and college. I want to continue that way as an actress,” she said.
As for stardom, Parineeti rejects it at the moment.
“I am not a star at all! Stardom comes after years of work. It doesn’t happen with two films. Let me get a solid seven-eight years of work done before we talk of stardom for me. I’m just lucky to be here at a time when audiences are willing to watch newcomers.
“Yeah, I do enjoy being recognised on the streets. If that didn’t happen, I’d be really depressed. My aim is to be known by everyone who sees films. I don’t want any viewer to ask, ‘Parineeti who?’ I am here for a very long time,” she said.

Fortunately, Jen was all smiles as she left the Rossano Ferretti HairSpa in Beverly Hills, California yesterday with her new brunette hairstyle. Of course, this isn’t a completely new look for the 22-year-old. The “Silver Linings Playbook” star had brown hair for the first “Hunger Games” film in 2011 and then again last September for the first round of shooting of “Catching Fire.”
Hey, at least she didn’t have to shave it all off like Charlize Theron.

Mugdha Godse keen to do Marathi cinema

Mugdha Godse wants to do Marathi films for the sake of the audience who stay away from Hindi movies.The model-turned-actress is known for her roles in Hindi movies like “Fashion” and “Jail”.
“I am definitely doing a Marathi film this year because I have got some really nice scripts. Being a Maharashtrian I always wanted to do something for my people and I know there are a lot of Maharashtrians who don’t watch Hindi films much, like my mom and dad,” the 26-year-old said here in an interview.
“They watched ‘Kahaani’, a Hindi film after almost four years… of course, my films they do watch. So I wanted to do a Marathi film for such people and, of course, bring them to watch my Hindi films also,” she added.
Meanwhile, she will be seen in item number “Media se keh dun kya main” in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s “Sahib, Biwi aur Gangster Returns”.
“It was great working with Tigmanshu sir. I thought he is a serious kind of a man and I would have to stay very quiet. But on the first day itself he broke the ice and started chatting up,” said.
“He made me very comfortable. He kept on complimenting me and that made me feel good. He is a great director, he knew what he wanted,” she added.
The song has been sung by Paroma Dasgupta.
“Sahib, Biwi aur Gangster Returns” stars Jimmy Sheirgill, Mahie Gill, Irrfan and Soha Ali Khan and hits theatres March 8.

Shadow movie audio release postponed

The audio release of Victory Venkatesh’s upcoming film, Shadow, in the direction of Meher Ramesh has been postponed.Previously, the audio is said to be released on March 7th. Thaman.S is the music director.
Tapsee is the female lead and  Srikanth, Madhurima play the key roles in the movie.Venkatesh is playing a mafia don and Bollywood actor Adithya Pancholi is making his debut in Telugu as villain. The script work for the film has been provided by Kona Venkat and Gopi Mohan.

Jabardasth is inspired from 23 movies:Director Nandini

Both film goers and critics have opined that the most-awaited film Jabardasth starring Siddharth and Samantha in leads shares a strikingly similar premise with Band Baaja Baaraat. But director Nandini Reddy denies copying the 2010 Bollywood flick starring Ranveer and Anushka. She says that her latest Telugu release is inspired by 23 flicks from various languages.
Talking to an English daily, Nandini Reddy says that she never thought of making Band Baaja Baaraat in Telugu. During the production of Jabardasth, she never felt any similarity. When asked about its wedding planning backdrop, the director says that Siddharth and Samantha play event managers in the movie. Whereas Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma appeared as wedding planners in the Hindi film.
Nandini Reddy further says that many Hollywood movies have set against the backdrop of wedding planning, but Band Baaja Baaraat is the only movie in Hindi to used. This is why all are thinking that it is a copy. The director adds that she chose this backdrop because she thought that it would add colour and vibrancy to the movie.
Meanwhile, Nandini Reddy revealed that she has taken inspiration from many movies to do Jabardasth. “You will find references to around 23 films in the movie. The climax with the dead body was inspired from Jane Bhi Do Yaaron. You will also see influences from a lot of Amitabh Bachchan movies like Yaarana and the style of filmmaking is very David Dhawan. But none of these references seem to have registered,” Times of India quotes her as saying.

Dandu palyam director Srinivasa Raju to Direct Gopichand

Gopichand has signed up a film with director Srinivasa Raju, who has recently made a film titled Dandupalyam. The film will be made in bilingual versions in Telugu and Kannada, and actor Upendra will play the lead in Kannada version.
The film will be made with a budget of 25 crores and the director is confident that the film has the potential to turn out to be hit in both the versions. Next to this, director Srinivasa Raju will direct a film with Srikanth in the lead role.
For now, Gopichand is busy with the shooting schedules of Jackpot that has Tapsee as the female lead in Chandra Sekhar Yeleti’s direction.

Ilayaraja Cameo in Naadi Thudikkuthadi

Isal Gnani Ilayaraja has done a cameo in Naadi Thudikkuthadi. Director Selva wielded the megaphone for this film. Ilayaraja has done a cameo in a song which has the lyrics as Kaadhal Illadha Desam Engirukku.
Director Selva said, “I suggested to the producer that it’d be better if the Maestro appeared in the song sequence. I spoke to Raaja Sir and explained to him about my need.
Though I didn’t compel, the Maestro was gracious enough to have agreed to star in the film. We are happy that the sequence has come out very well after the Maestro showed his full commitment in starring in the sequence.”Pala.Karuppaih is producing this film. SVSC 50 days function in Hyderabad

Victory Venkatesh and Prince Mahesh Babu’s ‘Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’ was released on 11th January and proved to be the blockbuster at the box office.
The movie collected more than Rs.51 crores share so far. The movie is also running 50 days in around 25 direct centers. In connection with this occasion, the makers of the movie decided to celebrate the 50 days function of the movie on 3rd March in Hyderabad. More details of the function are awaited officially from the makers.
Dusky beauty Samantha and homely beauty Anjali have done the lady leads of this family entertainer. Micky J.Meyer scored the music of the film. The movie was directed by Srikanth Addala while it was produced by Dil Raju on Sri Venkateswara Creations.

It was a sad moment for young heroine Aditi Rao Hydari as her father Ehsaan Hydari passed away on the wee hours of Monday. Ehsaan, who had been suffering from lung cancer, breathed his last at around 1.30 am.
Aditi, who loves her father a lot, took time out to be by her father’s side even during the promotion of her film ‘Murder 3′.
In fact, Adidi was next to her father, just a day before his death i.e. on Sunday, to make sure he was comfortable. But on Monday morning, Aditi got a message that he is no more. Ehsaan’s mortal remains were cremated at Shivaji Park Crematorium on Monday.
Aditi was born in Hyderbad where she has two royal lineages of Muhammad Saleh Akbar Hydari and Raja J Rameshwar Rao of erstwhile Wanaparthi princely state of Andhra Pradesh. She is the great granddaughter of Akbar Hydari and the grand niece of Muhammad Saleh Akbar Hydari, former Governor of Assam.

Entertainment should reflect society: Irrfan Khan

Entertainment is not just time pass; it should “reflect the society that we live in”, says seasoned actor Irrfan who is working with the motto of challenging the definition of entertainment. A name to reckon with in the international arena thanks to his powerful performances in “The Namesake” and Oscar winning films “Slumdog Millionaire” and “Life of Pi”, Irrfan is equally respected on home turf for his extraordinary work in “Maqbool” and “Paan Singh Tomar”.
Sharing his views on movies and its content, the alumnus of the National School of Drama told IANS: “I am just trying to find entertainment, which is not regular definition of entertainment. It has to keep evolving and it should also reflect the society that we live in. I am constantly challenging the definition of entertainment. Entertainment has to do something more than just time pass.”
With an interesting bouquet of work that boasts of variety and quality, have his options narrowed as an actor in pursuit of challenges? “That has always been a problem because the industry doesn’t know what to do after a point,” Irrfan said, adding that once “they (filmmakers) thought they will make me a villain and I didn’t expect that”.
But my job is to explore as much as possible even when I don’t know where I would head to. And not knowing things has risk as well as fun in it,” said the actor who entertained his fans with light-hearted roles in “Life… in a Metro” and “Sunday”. “Cinema should be entertaining” and at the same time “it should also leave some message and that is important for me”, opined the 46-year-old.
When you come out of the theatre and you don’t even talk about that film or remember it, then it disappoints me. At times, even I do these kind of films (please don’t ask me to name them), but I feel I should be part of those kind of films which should be worth watching again and again,” added the Padma Shri recipient. irrfan khan After the big success of “Paan Singh Tomar”, a biopic on athlete-turned-outlaw Paan Singh Tomar, Irrfan’s next is “Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns”.
A sequel to critically acclaimed 2011 offering “Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster”, Irrfan is a new edition to the cast. He joins Jimmy Sheirgill and Mahie Gill who were in the original. Soha Ali Khan too features in the latest instalment of the crime thriller directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. On the latest fad in Bollywood – the Rs.100-crore club – Irrfan felt it was “a ridiculous tag. It’ll not do good to the industry”.
According to him, filmmaking is a “combination of creativity and money”. “So you cannot reduce the power of story with the tag of money because it’s not a share market. So you must know the seriousness of the power of storytelling. If it recovers its money, leaves something for the audience and creates the atmosphere of good filmmaking, that is something that matters. The tag of Rs.100 crore is harmful for the industry.”
He would prefer his film to be known for its content and not just for the huge profit it earned at the box office. “If my film continuously earns Rs.100 crore even then I will reject the tag because my film should be recognised for its story power. If a film is judged by money, it’s a disrespect to the storyteller,” he said.

Mirchi movie cruises to Top 10 in USA

Not aiming at Rs 100 crore for Kai Po Che: Abhishek Kapoor

Director Abhishek Kapoor, who is basking in the success of ‘Kai Po Che’, says he is not aiming to make Rs 100 crore at the box office. Starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh and Raj Kumar Yadav in lead roles, the movie, which hit the screens last Friday, witnessed a good response on its opening weekend and has reportedly earned Rs 18 crore till now.
Evidently, Kapoor is happy but does not consider that the new definition of success is the entry into the elite club.
“I think it (Rs 100 crore) is silly. Beyond that I would not like to say anything. For my films I never aimed for them to do X amount of business. All I want is the audience to like and enjoy the film,” Kapoor told As far as ‘Kai Po Che’ is concerned I don’t aim for any number or figures. I am happy I have touched the hearts of audience. Their reaction to the film holds more value to me than anything else,” he said.
“People have liked the film and I am really happy about it. We all have worked hard for it and our efforts have paid off well. Even the actors are getting good response for their performance in the film. We are elated. We hope to work again with the same cast,” the director said.
Kapoor adapted Chetan Bhagat’s book ’3 Mistakes of My Life’ for the big screen and titled it as ‘Kai Po Che’.
“When I read it (book) for the first time I found it very attractive as the film is about India in a simple way. I wanted to make a film based on India and want everyone to see this film. When I got into it I realised it is not going to be an easy task,” he said.
“This book is about politics, friendship, love, religion and earthquake all in equal measure. But when you make a film there has to be a theme or trajectory… We chose to revolve it around friendship. Then you remove and add things from the novel and you end up making a different entity,” he added.
After he directed ‘Rock On’ it took almost four years for Kapoor to come up with this film.
“It took a while… I did not intend to take such a long time. All I wanted to do is make a good film… So it took time. It is not a race as to who makes a film first. Hoping my next film does not take that long time,” Kapoor said.
His next project would be with UTV Motion Pictures again and with Ekta Kapoor. The filmmaker, however refused to divulge details about it.

Kai PO Che Collects Rs 18.10 Crore in 3 Days

Despite no stars and a new star cast, Abhishek Kapoor’s latest film ‘Kai Po Che’ has been able to draw audiences to the theatres. Based on Chetan Bhagat’s book, ‘The 3 Mistakes of My Life’, the film has received a good opening at the box office.
Trade Analyst, Taran Adarsh tweeted, “KaiPoChe collected approx Rs 18.10 cr nett in its opening weekend. Breakup:- Fri 4.50 cr, Sat 6.25 cr, Sun 7.35 cr. Fantastic!
The film had managed to collect Rs 4.5 crore on its opening day and has continued to draw audiences to the theatre over the weekend. Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, the film stars Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh, Rajkumar Yadav and Amrita Puri.

The Attacks of 26/11 in English too

Ram Gopal Varma’s “The Attacks of 26/11″ has been simultaneously shot in English and Hindi and for the first time Nana Patekar will be heard delivering dialogues in English.
Confirming this, Varma said: “‘Attacks of 26/11′ is also in English. The film is the same, it is just that the lines are in English and Nana and other actors have spoken their lines in the Queen’s language.”
The English version “will release across the world”, added the filmmaker who earlier brought underworld crime saga on the big screen through “Satya”, “Company” and “Sarkar”.
In “The Attacks of 26/11″, based on the 2008 Mumbai terror attack in which 166 people were killed, Nana plays joint commissioner of police facing an enquiry over the attacks, while Sanjeev Jaiswal will be seen as terrorist Ajmal Kasab, who was hanged recently.
The film also features Atul Kulkarni and Ganesh Yadav.Nana said: “I do not know how to speak English. I mugged up my lines and said them in English.”
Releasing March 1, the crime saga will hit the screens with 1,100 digital prints and 165 analogue prints in Hindi and Telugu languages.However, the release date for the English version has not been decided yet.

Paradesi Movie Release Date Confirmed

Bala’s much-awaited Paradesi will finally be hitting screens on March 15! The film features Atharva, Dhansika and Vedhika in the lead roles. The film is touted to take Atharva a notch higher in the industry.
The story of the film is based on real life incidents that took place before independence in the 1930s and is inspired from the novel Red Tea, written by Paul Harris Daniel. The movie trailer had got 1.8 lakh views in Youtube with in 24 hours it was released online.
Paradesi has come out clean from the censors with a ‘U’ certificate. Music has been composed by GV Prakash and lyrics penned by Vairamuthu, who is associating with Bala for the first time. Paradesi has been produced by Bala himself under B Studios.

Yash Raj Films to sue makers of Jabardasth?

Looks like the latest Siddharth and Samantha-starrer is gearing up for some legal wrangles. Jabardasth, which has the lead stars playing event managers, has been accused of being a ‘freemake’ of the 2010 Bollywood flick Band Baaja Baaraat, which is incidentally, being officially remade in Telugu with actor Nani.
Even as speculations are doing the rounds that YRF is rethinking their decision to do the Telugu remake due to these developments, Nani rubbishes the rumours. “The movie is on. It is going to be a bilingual and will release in Telugu and Tamil,” he confirms.
When asked to comment about director Nandini Reddy’s film, which shares a strikingly similar premise with Band Baaja…, he says, “I haven’t watched the film yet, but many people told me how similar Jabardasth is to the Hindi movie.” So is there any legal action in the offing? “I am not the producer to take any action.
But I’ve learnt that the production house (YRF) is planning to take the legal route,” he says. Meanwhile, Nandini vehemently denies copying the Hindi hit. “I never set out to make Band Baaja Baaraat and we never even got the feeling that it was similar when we were making the movie, says the director.
But then there is too much of a similarity (the wedding planning backdrop et al), isn’t it? “Look to start with, Sid and Sam play event managers in the movie and not wedding planners. They plan college fresher’s parties, corporate dos, Sashtipurthi functions and baby showers. The company with which we signed an in-film branding deal with is also an event management company.
I wanted a backdrop of event management because it adds colour and vibrancy to the movie. In any case, there have been many Hollywood movies with have been set in the backdrop of wedding planning. It just so happened that BBB is the only Hindi movie to have used that backdrop,” defends Nandini.
The filmmaker further contests that she as inspired by many movies. “You will find references to around 23 films in the movie. The climax with the dead body was inspired from Jane Bhi Do Yaaron. You will also see influences from a lot of Amitabh Bachchan movies like Yaarana and the style of filmmaking is very David Dhawan.
But none of these references seem to have registered. A filmmaker makes a movie from one point of view and what the audience perceives can be something entirely different. It could just imply that I failed as a story teller to convey what I wanted to in the movie. If there is some legal action then we’ll just have to see how it plays out,” says Nandini. Despite repeated efforts to contact YRF, we did not get any response.

KV Anand denies directing Rajinikanth

KV Anand directing Rajinikanth news has turned out to be a false, as the director has denied it. A leading newspaper had reported that the duo was working together and Eros International has signed them for a future project. “Friends, all are nothing but rumours.
Unless otherwise a Maattraan (twin) of mine went around signed the film,” posted KB Anand on his Twitter page. He further added, “I haven’t signed my next film with any production company or any hero.
I will move only after finishing the script and till then all are just gossips,” he tweeted. Apparently, a leading financial daily reported Monday that Rajinikanth’s next film will be helmed by Anand and that Eros International will produce it.
It has to be noted that Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiyaan, which is gearing up for summer release, is being produced by Eros International. In the recent months, there were several reports on KV Anand working with the superstar for the first time. On Monday, it became a sensational news after the daily claimed that the duo is coming together for the future project.

Michelle Obama Oscars Appearance: First Lady Presents Best Picture To ‘Argo’

The Academy Awards suddenly turned into the Michelle Obama Oscars when Jack Nicholson told the audience a special guest was joining him to present Best Picture.
“Argo” won the award, which the First Lady read off an envelope while being paged in to Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre.
“[These films] taught us that love can beat all odds,” Obama said. “They reminded us that we can overcome any obstacle if we dig deep enough and fight hard enough and find the courage within ourselves.”
It’s through cinema, Obama said, that “our children learn to open their imagination and dream just a little bigger and to strive every day to reach those dreams.”
“Argo’s” win was remarkable because it was only the fourth film in the Oscars’ 85-year history to win Best Picture without a corresponding Best Director nomination. Affleck, a producer on the film, gave an emotional acceptance speech that ended with a simple message: “It doesn’t matter how you get knocked down in life, all that matters is how you get back up.”

Amrita Rao’s big moment: Sharing screen with Big B

Prakash Jha has roped in Amrita Rao for Satyagraha and the actress is extremely joyous as most of her scenes are with none other than Amitabh Bachchan, whose role in the film is reportedly modelled on activist Anna Hazare. “We are shooting in Bhopal and I am feeling so blessed that all my
scenes in Satyagraha are with Amitabh Bachchan. In fact, I can say 99 percent of my scenes are with him. It’s like a dream come true for me,” Amrita told IANS.
After Main Hoon Na and Vivah, the 31-year-old’s last memorable role was in 2008 Welcome to Sajjanpur. After that, most of her films, like Shortkut – The Con Is On, bombed at the box office.
Her role in Satyagraha could be a turning point in her career, but she didn’t seem keen to reveal anything about it and said: “I am not allowed to talk much about the film and about the role. All I can say is that it’s a fantastic role and we have shot around 10 days over here and now have 55 more days to go.”
Satyagraha also features Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpayee besides Kareena Kapoor, who plays a journalist in it.

Ang Lee says Namaste at Oscars, Indian fans ecstatic

It was a big moment for Ang Lee when he won the best director Oscar for Life of Pi at the 85th Academy Awards, but it was a bigger moment for his Indian fans when he ended his acceptance speech with Namaste. From author Shobhaa De to internationally acclaimed actor Kabir Bedi, all are ecstatic.
Life of Pi narrates the journey of an Indian boy who survives a storm. Widely shot in India, the fantasy adventure drama stars young Delhi-based Suraj Sharma in the lead role, with acclaimed Indian actors Irrfan and Tabu seen in prominent roles in the movie, a big screen adaptation of Canadian author Yann Martel’s Man Booker Prize-winning novel.
During his acceptance speech, Lee thanked his producers, “Indian crew”, Suraj and all technicians who worked on the movie.
“Suraj, where are you,” he said, and the cameras focused on Suraj, who made his acting debut with the movie. And finally Lee wrapped up the speech saying, Namaste.
