Record Remuneration to Brahmanandam
Tollywood might be having the most number of comedians than any other
Industry in the country, but there seems to be no threat for
Brahmanandam in the near future. Our comedy king always has a special
place in the Industry and in the hearts of film lovers. He is
effectively converting this good will and hard work into income source
for the past two decades. Confused, here is the actual story…
Brahmanandam who will be seen playing pivotal roles in at least a dozen big ticket films and several small to medium budget movies in a year has been charging Rs 6 lakhs per day as his pay package. He is undoubtedly one of highest paid actors in the Industry and his yearly income could be on par with any of the Top Heroes. Neverthless, producers were not complaining and they are even ready to pay more to acquire the call sheets of our Star Comedian. That’s the impact of Brahmi on Telugu film lovers!
Notably, Brahmi’s call sheets never remained unfilled in a fiscal year and he has been continuing this way since his debut in ‘Aha Naa Pellanta’. Guess, what would be his annual income and the total assets owned by him after enter the Film Industry. Brahmanandam’s story is an inspiration to many – A teacher reaching a stage where he is capable of demanding Rs 6 for a single day is a remarkable achievement.

Arshad Warsi is a hugely underrated actor, says Boman Irani
Their warm relationship in real life has helped them create magic on
the big screen time and again but Boman Irani feels his good friend
Arshad Warsi has a lot more to offer as an actor.
“Arshad is a hugely underrated and undervalued actor. He has a lot more to offer. Arshad to me is someone, who acts with his heart. He is a natural and unique performer. He has a style of his own and has a certain spontaneity that people will love to have,” Boman told PTI in an interview. The actors 20-year-old friendship has transcended in films like – ‘Munnabhai MBBS’, one of the biggest films in their respective careers, its sequel ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ and ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’.
“I met Arshad before we started working in films. He was the choreographer in my first play in which I was the actor. Then he went to acting and I went to photography and theatre. We came together in ‘Munnabhai MBBS’- my first commercial film. He has grown as an actor,” he said.Boman says the beauty of their relationship is that they make each other laugh, support each other through hard times and pull each other’s leg.
“I get along famously with his family as well. I see a lot of his wife’s (Maria Goretti) influence in his life as a lot of people see Zenobia’s in my life. I am very fond of them and have great love and affection. I can say anything to him… That is the beauty of our relationship. He knows I don’t mean him any harm because I love him,” Boman said.
Boman, 53, is pitted against Warsi again in Subhash Kapoor directed ‘Jolly LLB’, a social satire on the country’s judiciary system, in which they both play lawyers. Also starring Amrita Rao, the film releases this Friday.
The actors are likely to reunite with Kapoor again as he is directing the third ‘Munnabhai’ film.

My films are psychiatric: Steven Spielberg
The world’s most famous director charmed the film making fraternity
and even praised the Bandra-Worli Sea link In a recent article in the
New York Times, Steven Spielberg was hailed as Hollywood’s Secret Santa.
Reportedly, the world’s most influential filmmaker is a “sounding
board” for directors not always working with him. However, when the
publication wanted to speak to him about the invaluable creative inputs
he shared with the aspirants, Spielberg declined, saying they were
private conversations.
Bollywood just got lucky on Monday night. In a discussion organised by Anil and Tina Ambani, and helmed by Amitabh Bachchan, over 40 filmmakers here got a glimpse of his generosity and vision.
A suburban five-star was the milieu for the unique congregation – when did you last see Abbas Mastan sit next to a quiet, and evidently restless Prabhu Dheva, or a Sudhir Mishra share a table with Javed Akhtar or for that matter a Raju Hirani win a nod from Spielberg himself – he said he loved Three Idiots.
It was interesting to see filmmakers with similar sensibilities share tables – so you had Kiran Rao, Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti with Anurag Kashyap at one place, while R Balki and Raju Hirani sat close elsewhere.
The conversation flowed from Spielberg’s earliest works, to his wife, who is “the smartest person” in his life while taking in almost all of his seminal works and how they were put together. The director-producer was at his charming and wittiest best. When asked about Jaws, he said: “It scared me off filmmaking.”
And if all movies were this tough to make, he said he’d rather not make another one. As for the scary water beast, Spielberg said apparently, the 20 feet machine did not respond well to “salt water” and that when he watched frightened people throw their popcorn in the air, he “couldn’t believe that the audience believed in that white turd!”
For a filmmaker with such an immense body of work, it was interesting and heartening to hear him pick his favourites – ET and Schindler’s List. And that is because both these films are what
people still talk about everywhere he goes. ET especially because his seven kids love it.
ET also has a deep, personal subtext. It was Spielberg’s conversations with his father about benevolent and curious aliens that shaped the film. In fact, talking about how his films are often
deeply personal, he said, “I have never visited shrinks, my films are psychiatric.”
Not the kind of person who believes in compromises, Spielberg touched a chord with many of the filmmakers present when Jaya Bachchan asked him if he ever considered dropping a project
because he did not get the actor he wanted. Once again, Spielberg was ready with his answer: Lincoln, because Daniel Day Lewis took a fair bit of convincing even after turning him down twice.
It was Leonardo Di Caprio, “a friend of the family” who took the initiative to track down the reclusive actor in Ireland, and got him to read the new script. The rest is moviemaking history.
It were the many anecdotes about the camaraderie between Spielberg and his contemporaries – Martin Scorsese and Francis Coppola to name a few – that livened up the conversation. “We are fiercely competititve but always helping each other out,” he said.
What was most amusing, however, was Spielberg’s take on why he could never make a Bond film. “I tried,” he said, shaking his head. Not once, but three times. The first attempt was right after Jaws, when producer Cubby Broccoli turned him down because he was “not successful enough.” After several attempts, there came a time when Cubby wanted to use the haunting 5-note leitmotif from Close Encounters of the Third Kind as the entry code for an electronic laboratory door lock in a scene in Moonraker, Spielberg readily agreed. But when he wanted to use the 007 signature tune for The Goonies as a tribute to the franchise he always loved, he was flatly refused. “I was told the Bond theme had two more notes….” he shrugged.
The hour-long conversation ended with an interactive session, that saw Kunal Kohli, Anurag Kashyap, Sudhir Mishra, Javed Akhtar, Prasoon Joshi among others ask him questions and even indulge in some fanboy moments – Rakeysh Omparaksh Mehra gushed – “We love you. God Bless you!”
Spielberg admitted he has not seen enough films from India as yet, but encouraged filmmakers to think of shared platforms for a global cultural exchange so that Americans get to see more of the films we make here. He also wanted to know if the audiences here were accepting of genrebenders, the way they were in the West. And cited the example of Beasts of the Southern Wild, an indie film that was hailed as one of the finest to have released last year.
And last but not the least, Mr Sheshadri Srinivasan take a bow. If you are wondering who that is, well, he is the gentleman who designed the Bandra-Worli Sea-Link. And to quote Spielberg: “It is the best piece of art in this city.”

No buyers for Preity Zinta’s film
Acting and production are two different ball games and PreityZinta,
actress who turned producer with ‘Ishkq in Paris’, is learning this the
hard way. Although the initial release date was announced as October 5,
2012, it was first postponed to November 2 and then indefinitely.
Preity’s ambitious project went to floors late in 2011. Directed by Prem Soni, the film was co-written by Preity, and stars French actress Isabelle Adjani and newcomer Rhehan Malliek along with her. Nobody had any inkling of trouble brewing until the first promos of the film were pulled off after running them for 40 days—apparently the film had not found any buyer.
A source close to Preity, explained: “There was no sense to continue the promos since she hadn’t locked the release date.” Preity is on a hunt for a buyer since. Things got worse when the director of the film Prem Soni was diagnosed with cancer in October last year and Preity tweeted: “Sometimes we have no control over life and destiny. I believe things happen for a reason. Ishkq In Paris gets more special now.”
However, even with Soni, fast recovering and finally done with the post production of the film, indications are that Preity has not yet locked the deal with any buyer. According to reports, Preity has demanded a whopping Rs 20 crores for the film and no buyer is willing to shell out that amount of money as the initial promos had failed to garner a favourable response.
In the meantime, the gregarious Preity has become a kind of a recluse—not only has she cut off contact with the director of her film, but has almost vanished from the social circuit. What took everyone by surprise was when in February 2013 Preity visited the Kumbh Mela on Mauni Amavasya and participated in a yagna. In keeping with the tradition of keeping maun (silent) on this auspicious day, the usually garrulous Preity kept silent the entire day.
Apparently, what made the actress quote such a high price for the film was a piece of advice that came from a well meaning friend, who is a leading producer and a family friend of Sridevi. According to the source: “This man drilled into Zinta’s head that if Sridevi’s comeback film English Vinglish could generate such a good response, then why not her film?” However, when the buyers were quoted the amount, none showed any interest in the film.
Preity was in talks with (late) Ponty Chaddha’s Wave Group and Shabnam Kapoor, who is now a senior member of the team that runs the company, told TOI: “Preity wanted us to buy the film on all-India basis but we told her that we were interested only in buying it for UP-Delhi circuit. A few days after we met her, Ponty Sir passed away. After that, Preity did not come to us.” Preity had approached Viacom 18 and few other studios as well. An official from Viacom 18 told TOI: “We have a definite slate of hard-hitting movies and Preity’s film is a romantic film. Hence we couldn’t take it up.”
The actress then decided to sell the satellite rights of the film first. However, luck was not on her side this time either. An official from STAR India said: “We were okay with buying the satellite rights of the film but we needed Preity to tell us when she would be releasing the film. However, she wasn’t clear about that.” Even, her close friend Salman Khan’s best efforts could not change the fate of the film. However, a friend of Soni said: “Preity has told Prem that she has almost locked the deal and she would release the film in May.” Repeated attempts to reach Preity failed.

Oscar-winning sound technician Resul Pookutty has refuted rumours
that he is doing any film with southern superstar Rajinikanth. However,
he says he has shared his script with Bollywood megastar Amitabh
Bachchan.
“It’s all rubbish news. I don’t understand where this news came from. I am glad now I got an opportunity to clear these rumours. This news has made my life hell. I am not doing any film with Rajini sir,” Pookutty told IANS.

Its breakup is Rs 4.25 cr on Fri, Rs 4.75 cr on Sat and Rs 6 cr on Sun. However, Gundello Godari could have done much better than its present performance.
But its collection was affected partially by other Telugu movies like Mahankali and Telugabbai, which hit the screens this weekend. Besides this, the examination period for schools and colleges was another reason for its setback.

Paresh Rawal’s breakdance in ‘Himmatwala’
Veteran actor Paresh Rawal, who has shown his acting prowess a number
of times, has now put on his dancing shoes for director Sajid Khan’s
“Himmatwala” remake.
The 62-year-old, who tickled the audience’s funny bone in movies like “Hera Pheri”, “Golmaal: Fun Unlimited” and “Bhagam Bhag”, agreed to do breakdance on the director’s behest.
“It was a comic scene and I wanted him to do something, which he has not done before. So when I asked Paresh bhai to do a breakdance, he started laughing, but agreed to do it. There were no rehearsals because he wanted to be spontaneous,” Khan said in a statement.
“He emulated the moves I had conceived and tried his level best to be funny and get them correct. Eventually he got them right, but that was one of the most challenging scenes to shoot,” he added.
“Himmatwala”, a remake of Jeetendra and Sridevi-starrer 1983 movie, stars Ajay Devgn and Tamanna. It is slated to release March 29.

Bollywood biggies in Spielberg’s next film
Indian cinema couldn’t have asked for a bigger gift just after
completing 100 years. In a move that will catapult Bollywood onto the
global stage, legendary Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg has
decided to make a film that would feature Indian actors as well as
Hollywood biggies.
“While Spielberg is looking at casting Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan or Hrithik Roshan as the male lead, Anushka Sharma is likely to play the female lead. Deepika Padukone and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are also in the reckoning. The international actors being considered include Denzel Washington and Bradley Cooper. Richard Gere is also likely to play an important role in the yet-unnamed film,” a source, who did not want to be named, told HT.
The film, to be produced by Reliance DreamWorks — a joint venture between 66-year-old Spielberg and industrialist Anil Ambani’s Reliance Entertainment — will be shot in India, among other international locations. When contacted, a spokesperson for Reliance DreamWorks declined to comment on the proposed project.
The Lincoln director, who is currently on a visit to India, is expected to attend a party thrown by Anil and wife Tina Ambani at their Mumbai residence on Tuesday evening. Guests expected at the dinner include actors Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Farhan Akhtar and filmmaker Karan Johar.
Spielberg also met more than 60 Indian filmmakers at an event moderated by actor Amitabh Bachchan on Monday afternoon. On Sunday, Bachchan had tweeted, “And tomorrow meeting up with THE Steven Spielberg, and moderating a conversation with him, at an event for select fraternity.”

‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ is out and out Love Story
Karan Johar’s latest film is going to be Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika
Padukone starrer ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ and the filmmaker states it
will be after long that Bollywood see an out and out love story.
Karan believes the last film which can be called an essential love story was Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Jab We Met’ and his latest film also falls into the same genre.
Interestingly, Karan, who started his directorial career with superhit romantic film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, admits that ‘YJHD’ is the only other film of his production house that can be put in the same bracket of his directorial debut.
About his latest film, Karan says, “I would define the film as a perfectly formulated formulaic love story. After ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, ‘YJHD’ can be put in the same bracket.”
Meanwhile, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ is directed by Ayan Mukherjee who earlier directed ‘Wake Up Sid’ for Dharma.
But being director himself, did Karan give his inputs in the making of the love story?
Denying his involvement in the product, Karan replies, “I can’t take any credit for it. It’s completely Ayan’s baby. My involvement has been limited to lending financial and moral support. Otherwise it belongs to Ayan, Ranbir, Deepika and also Aditya and Kalki.”
‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ is Karan’s first release of 2013. It’s scheduled to hit the screens on May 31.

Anna Kendrick’s Shorts Are Super Short… But Are They Chic?
We already loved Anna Kendrick for her wry performance in “Pitch
Perfect” and her hilariously spot-on tweets. (Sample: “To the
manufacturers of price tags that come off cleanly in one motion – I
raise my glass to you; you are true gentlemen.” Oh, and this.)
But we’re also beginning to admire the actress for her intrepid style sense, as demonstrated recently with a backless one-piece swimsuit and a daring shorts suit.
Yes, you heard that right: a shorts suit. Kendrick kicked things off at South by Southwest Film Festival in a tweedy green-trimmed jacket-and-shorts combo. The jacket had a retro, Chanel-esque vibe, but the mini shorts were as modern — and short — as can be.
It’s a chilly 45 degrees here in NYC, which makes shorts-centric outfits a real stretch. But hey, all bets are off when you cross the Texas border. Is a mini shorts suit appropriate for March in Austin?
