Around the time of its release, there was buzz that Murder 2 (2011)
was a copy of a Korean film called The Chaser (2008). Now, it turns out
that the next film in the franchise, Murder 3, which is being produced
by Vishesh Films and Fox Studios, will be based on a Spanish thriller.
The makers have bought the rights to the film, La Cara Oculta (LCO, 2011). Its Hindi version stars actors Randeep Hooda, Aditi Rao Hydari and Pakistan import Sara Loren.
A source close to the film says, “The Murder series has always been bold, and this time too, the makers plan on delivering that. Though Murder 3 is not a frame-by-frame remake, it has heavily drawn inspiration from the Spanish film.”
The movie also marks the directorial debut of producer Mahesh Bhatt’s son, Vishesh, after whom Vishesh Films is named. When asked to comment, Mahesh Bhatt says, “Murder 3 is the 2013 equivalent of the controversial film Arth (1983). It deconstructs love and questions the very existence of it. LCO was an interesting film that didn’t get its due.
Now that we have the official rights, we want to do it justice while taking the franchise forward.”
