In another instance of religious court cases, a petition was filed in
the Allahabad High Court accusing Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan
of having made a “derogatory” remark about the Holy Book of the ‘Quran’.
The petition was filed by Mudassir Ullah Khan, a resident of Jhansi,
who believes that Bachchan’s use of the phrase ‘racha gaya’ about the
Holy book in an episode of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ was derogatory.
Khan contends that Bachchan’s use of the phrase ‘racha gaya’ was derogatory as the ‘Quran’ was neither written by nor created by anybody but was brought into existence by Allah himself. The petitioner has sought to make Bachchan as well as the manager of Sony TV and the ‘Karyakram Prayojak’ (a programme sponsor of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’) a party in the case. The petition will probably come up for hearing before a Bench next week.
