Actor Madhavan has been chosen as ‘Person of the Year’ by animal
rights advocacy group People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
The 42 year old has been nominated for the honour for actively
participating and promoting vegetarianism “as the best way to help stop
animal suffering, reducing pollution, fight climate change and improve
health,” PETA said in a statement.
Madhavan has a long association with PETA and has often volunteered his time to protect the rights of animals. The actor had recently written to the CEO of food chain KFC’s parent company, Yum! Brands, urging them to adopt PETA’s recommendations to curb animal exploitation.
Madhavan had also lent his vocals to a PETA video, which was based on Paul McCartney’s statement that if slaughterhouses were made up of glass walls, then no one would eat non-vegetarian food.
