Hindi movie Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (MKBKM) starring Imran Khan
and Anushka Sharma in leads, has ended the first week with decent
collection at the Box Office. But the movie has failed to beat the
opening week collection record at of Imran’s previous release Ek Main
Aur Ek Tu (EMAET) at the international market.
Its worldwide business is lower than that of his previous movie. Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, which was expected to get a huge opening, received an average response and collected Rs 22.42 crores nett at the Indian Box Office in the first weekend. The movie, which showed drop in its collection on weekdays, added Rs 10.75 crores to its first week total Rs 33.17 crores nett. Its breakup is Rs 26 lakhs on Thu previews, Rs 6.76 cr on Fri, Rs 7.25 cr on Sat, Rs 8 cr on Sun, Rs 4.10 cr on Mon, Rs 2.55 cr on Tue, Rs 2.20 cr on Wed and Rs 1.90 cr on Thu.
The Vishal Bhardwaj directed and produced movie opened to a cold response in foreign countries like USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola collected Rs 4.49 crores nett at the overseas Box Office in its opening weekend. On the weekdays, the film added another Rs 3.46 crores nett to its international total Rs 7.96 crores nett. With this, its worldwide total stands at Rs 41.13 crores.
However, Imran Khan’s previous movie Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu had collected Rs 42.17 crores nett at the worldwide Box Office in the first week. It had raked in Rs 32.75 crores nett in India and Rs 9.42 crores nett overseas. His latest outing Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola was expected to smash this record. Although it has beaten its domestic record, its average performance in the international market has stopped it from breaking its worldwide record.
